This was one of the details that made me feel drawn to the platform ever since I first saw it in a 12" PowerBook in the early 2000s. Not only the pulsing, but also the fact that at some point the light disappeared behind the aluminum once it wasn’t needed anymore – only there when it had to indicate something. This was just beautiful.
I had now idea that it also synced between devices:
Back when I had a Powermac G4 plugged into an Apple Cinema Display, I noticed something that was never advertised. When the Mac went to sleep, the pulsing sleep light came on, of course, but the sleep light on the display did too… in sync with the light on the Mac. I’ve tested that so many times, and it was always the same; in sync.
Just a little detail that wouldn’t sell anything, but just because.
That’s exactly the attention to detail that I always admired about that company.
