You might have learned that a certain upcoming version of Mac OS X may have scrolling that is “bass-ackwards”.

That is, when you push up on your trackpad or mouse scroller, the page content moves up too, just like on iOS devices.

I made a very minimal little app that lets you reverse…

If you’re working with subversion on a Mac go get it here.

Only downside: No bookmark syncing between computers. Today it bugged me enough to come up with a solution. Ok, fair enough, this is kinda obvious, but maybe you’re at the same point:

ln -s ~/Dropbox/Versions/ ~/Library/Application\ Support/Versions

Just move your Versions directory (which contains your Bookmarks.plist) to your Dropbox (or any other cloud location) and create a symlink to it at the directory’s old location.

Update

Ok, turns out, syncing the whole folder is maybe not the best idea. The license is located in the same folder and two computers accessing the same license seem to cause some trouble making one of the clients go back to trial mode.

So I changed the symlink to only point to the Bookmarks.plist itself. If you did it the same way I did it the following lines should help you:

cd ~/Library/Application\ Support/
unlink Versions
mkdir Versions
cd Versions
ln -s ~/Dropbox/Versions/Bookmarks.plist ~/Library/Application\ Support/Versions/Bookmarks.plist

BTW: No Dropbox? Get it here and make us both get some extra megabytes.

Network Testing

cocoa-dom:

If you put in network code into your apps, it is always important to test against bad network conditions. While this isn’t too trivial, it was always possible using dummynet.

However, now new in Lion is a Preference pane to use, so you don’t have any excuses anymore for not testing: Network Link Conditioner - Use it and use it heavily - real life network conditions, especially on iOS, are never as good as in your pristine office big bad ass network location.

So I spent a few minutes googling. I assume there are some web services or apps that do that for you. But I neither wanted to sign up for another service nor did I want another app for that.

“Why not add all the episodes to Things?”, I thought. That would make perfect sense for me since Things is the application I’m using for all the tasks one can tick off. Yeah, I love making lists and ticking off things to see the progress I made.

I remembered Things is fully scriptable so I decided to build a quick and dirty AppleScript to batch-create all these tasks. :) Hope this helps someone.

Equally disappointed I was when I first saw the list of supported printers.

Today I ran across a German blogpost which describes how to get every printer working with AirPrint by running an Apple Script and re-installing the printer. You can download the script here. Follow these steps once you have downloaded Simone’s script:

Run the script by double clicking it

Authorize as an administrator

Restart your Mac*

Remove the printer you want to make available

Re-install it and make it accessible on the network

That’s it!

I tried it with a DELL 1320c at the office and an HP Officejet J6400 at home and it worked like a charm with both of them!

Thank you, Simone!

*) You don’t need to neccessarily restart your Mac. It’s ok to run
