hilarious shell
tngs: when i tried to start a server today with the wrong user, i just used sudo to start him anyway. sudo /etc/init.d/mainserver start and that’s what the shell told me, before executing my command :D We trust you have received the usual lecture from the local System Administrator. It usually boils down to these three things:     #1) Respect the privacy of others.     #2) Think before you...

Pilotmoon Blog: Scroll Reverser — get in practice... →
pilotmoon: You might have learned that a certain upcoming version of Mac OS X may have scrolling that is “bass-ackwards”. That is, when you push up on your trackpad or mouse scroller, the page content moves up too, just like on iOS devices. I made a very minimal little app that lets you reverse…

Easy Versions syncing using Dropbox
For our subversion repositories we’re using Sofa’s awesome app Versions. If you’re working with subversion on a Mac go get it here. Only downside: No bookmark syncing between computers. Today it bugged me enough to come up with a solution. Ok, fair enough, this is kinda obvious, but maybe you’re at the same point: ln -s ~/Dropbox/Versions/ ~/Library/Application\...

Network Testing
cocoa-dom: If you put in network code into your apps, it is always important to test against bad network conditions. While this isn’t too trivial, it was always possible using dummynet. However, now new in Lion is a Preference pane to use, so you don’t have any excuses anymore for not testing: Network Link Conditioner - Use it and use it heavily - real life network conditions, especially on...

Since I started watching “How I Met Your Mother” somewhen the last two weeks I was wondering how I should keep track of the episodes I’ve already seen. So I spent a few minutes googling. I assume there are some web services or apps that do that for you. But I neither wanted to sign up for another service nor did I want another app for that. “Why not add all the episodes...

hare33 asked: when using your dell 1320, do you need to have your PC on, or can you rely on the network server in the printer.
I mean, the cool part about printing from the ipad is, that you don't have to go an turn on your pc

Using AirPrint with every (?) printer →
Since Apple announced that we’d be able to print directly from our iOS devices once 4.2 arrives I was pretty excited to get my hands on the new version. Equally disappointed I was when I first saw the list of supported printers. Today I ran across a German blogpost which describes how to get every printer working with AirPrint by running an Apple Script and re-installing the printer. You...

stevenf: When I heard that the new MacBook Air models were shipping without any Flash plug-in installed, the first thing I did was check to see if one of my long-standing Safari annoyances was fixed. It was. It used to be that if you completely removed the Flash and Shockwave plug-ins, by deleting or…

New Twitter Client Osfoora
Tired of Tweetie aka Twitter, Twitterrific and co? You should definitely give Osfoora for iPhone and especially iPad a try. It’s got a beautiful interface and is freaking fast. It makes my iPhone 3G doesn’t feel like a 3G with iOS 4 anymore. Now the only thing that’s missing is a great version for the Mac. I’m still using Tweetie which still has no native retweet support...

We’ve been working on our Swarm Intelligence project lately and found this website which illustrates the travelling salesman problem pretty good, I think. Just check it out and move the little city objects around. That’s actually very interesting.

San Francisco and the WWDC
Today I finally managed to take a look at all the pictures I took in San Francisco last week. A few of them are now on Flickr. Drop me a line, if you like them. :) SF is an amazing city! NYC was great, but SF even topped it off. I met so many nice people over there. I hope I can stay in touch with at least a few of them. If you’re one of those guys and if we’re not yet connected on...

ACO vs. PSO – Basics
Since I’ve been looking for some resources on our Swarm Intelligence project I found this description of PSO and ACO that made me understand it quite a bit better: ACO is mostly used for discrete optimization problems. PSO is mostly used for continuous optimization problems. Reason behind this is: ACO is driven by two parameters : heuristic value and pheromone value. Mostly these...
